Eyes RIGHT!

This is from a great book entitled "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" by Oliver Sacks. 

Well, the book is mainly about all the case studies Dr. Oliver Sacks has come across with. I just want to share this one case study that really amazes me. 

The chapter is called Eyes Right. 

It is about a woman. She recently had a major stroke at her right cerebral hemisphere. She is however, still have a perfect intelligence and humor. 
Whats weird about her, is that sometimes she would question why her coffee is missing, or food portion is smaller than the others. The most weirdest thing is..she would put on a makeup just on the RIGHT side of her face.

Note: This is not her picture of course. Just an image i got in the internet. But, surely, that how she would look like. 

Back to my story. The woman knows about this and she really tried to overcome her problem. Its amazing to see the brain works when their other parts aren't working... What i meant is that, the brain really try as hard as they can to overcome the problem the body has. 

In this case, she try to sit in a rotating wheelchair. The reason is because, so that she can see her left side of her food! Its simple. But, its tiring. Everytime she feels that she isn't satisfied with the amount of food she consumed, she would rotate her chair to the RIGHT ,,,and make a BIIIIGGG circle... to see the food on her left side. Ironically, sometimes, she has to make second or third turn just because she still can't see all of them. 

Anyway, eventually, the doctor try to put her in front of a camera and monitor facing her. So, what do you think happen???? 

Well, the most unexpected thing happened!!! She actually startled and 'doubly confounding and uncanny' ... this is because her left side of her body and face, which is now SAW, she had no feeling, no existence for her after her stroke.

and she cried... 'Take it away from me'.

I want to be a doctor some day.

I want to help these people.. even now i'm still learning. But, one day... I want to be the one that made their live better and insyaAllah to find a cure in it.
